Terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in a wide variety of plants and some animals.
They are responsible for the fragrance, taste, and pigments of the plants that produce them.
Terpenes are produced by plants to attract pollinators and as a defense to environmental stresses, predators and, pathogens. Cannabis terpenes provide a wide variety of medicinal properties such as pain reduction, general relaxation, anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, stress relief, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antidepressant, anticancer, sleep aid, antioxidant, appetite-suppressant, energy boosting, improved focus, and the list goes on.
Each strain of cannabis has its own unique terpene profile and when combined with the cannabinoid profile of the cannabis product there is a synergistic effect which is the “entourage effect.”
